“Let Me Tell You a Myth”: A Moving Theatrical Performance in Sithonia Honoring the Victims of Tempi

Date: April 4, 2025

This weekend in Agios Nikolaos, Sithonia, the local cultural association “Vourvourou” invites residents and visitors to a moving theatrical performance titled “Let Me Tell You a Myth” (Έναν μύθο θα σας πω). The performance will take place on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6 at 21:15, at the Agios Nikolaos High School.

Organized by the amateur theatrical team of the Agios Nikolaos Cultural Association, this year’s production is more than just a cultural event—it is a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the tragic Tempi train accident, which occurred on February 28, 2023, claiming 57 lives.

The performance is built on powerful excerpts from Greek and international literature, including works by Aristophanes (Lysistrata), C.P. Cavafy, and Iakovos Kambanellis, as well as musical interludes and staged scenes involving a symbolic train.

“This is the second year we are presenting a performance based on literary excerpts,” says Georgia Kougioni, a member of the theatrical team. “Each segment lasts around 10–15 minutes, and the total performance runs for about an hour. We are all amateur actors, but we put our heart and soul into what we do.”

The decision to dedicate the performance to Tempi carries deep emotional resonance. Georgia adds:

“This year marks two years since that tragic event. We even chose to include a scene involving a train, touching on themes from WWII, the Germans, and Auschwitz.”

Last year’s performance was met with a warm and enthusiastic response from the local community, and the group hopes for the same heartfelt support this weekend.

Whether you are a resident of Sithonia or visiting the region this April, don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness a meaningful, artistic, and emotional tribute through theater.
